Review & Description

As consolidation swept through the railway industry early in the twentieth century, artists helped transform the image of travel throughout the United Kingdom. Posters were designed to harmonize the modern lines of steam engines and passenger ships with historic landmarks, rolling mountains, and tranquil waterways, and text was relegated to areas above, beside, or below the illustrations, as befitting works of art. The twelve classic posters reproduced in this calendar were selected from the collection of the National Railway Museum, York.
